Urban Caesar: Heir to the City of Kings – the riveting forthcoming novel by BIG ROB ruiz

BIG ROB ruiz

BIG ROB is an urban-fiction writer and non-fiction story-teller from the then gritty Wicker Park/Humboldt Park neighborhoods in Chicago. Most of his child-hood friends fell into a life of drugs, gangs, and crime. Many of them met an untimely demise and some of them were put behind bars for life. He credits his escape from a similar fate to the strong iron-fist rule of his father and the gentle hand of his mother. He chose to pursue a career in law enforcement to attempt to reach out to the teens in his community and to mentor inmates that possibly weren’t facing too much time and attempt to steer them in the right direction. The urban jungle he grew up in and what he endured with his friends in the hood was far more humane than what he absorbed as an officer of the law. In the state pen and county jail between the age of 19 – 26 BIG ROB witnessed horrific acts by human beings that most only see in the movies. The level of violence and indifference for human life was just simply ungodly  Everyday was a struggle for survival, not just for the inmates but the officers as well. He knew he needed a change to save his own soul. In the years after his “retirement” it was difficult for him to let go of the temper, distrust and aggressive nature that he developed. He turned to the tranquil breezes of Puerto Rico, boxing, and writing as an escape. He wrote essays and short stories of the things he had gone through behind the walls and razor-wire. Upon compiling many stories he realized that he probably had good material to write novels. In 2008 a journey began to create novels out of the situations he witnessed and experienced, stories he was told by murderers, thieves, gang-bangers and other inmates, and his own upbringing in one of the toughest hoods of the 70’s and 80’s rumble eras. BIG ROB brings raw emotion, passion, experience of the hood and prison system, and first-hand accounts from some of the most vicious gangsters and killers of the modern era. Stay tuned to BIG ROB’s debut Street-Lit aka Urban-Fiction novel entitled – Urban Caesar: Heir to the City of Kings.

The Hodgetwins – (The next big thing?) – An Author G D Grace Exclusive!

And of dreams…  “

The Hodgetwins” broadcast shows on Youtube are a hoot!  The twins have an uncanny resemblance to one another, but if you’ve ever watched any of their shows, you can tell which one is Keith and which one is Kevin.

Some of their racier broadcasts deal with issues in the bedroom ranging from the anatomical to the extra-curricular.  They get the subject of the day from emails sent by viewers of the show.
They begin each broadcast by making the goofy faces in front of the camera and,  unless you are void of all humor, it really puts you in a mood and prepares you for what follows.   After getting you into the Hodgetwins mood,  they read an email from an anonymous sender.  After reading it, they offer their perspective and advice.

Special note to the viewer:  Their facial expressions are hilarious!
Anyone who has ever watched them are familiar with some of the commonly used terms  such as “Mushroom Tip” and “Sugar Walls”….

I’ll leave it at that.  (he he he)

They also have a fitness broadcast too, and when you look at some of their earlier shows you can see that they have really toned up (and trimmed down the afros – LOL).

Upon hearing about the great news about them shooting a pilot show in spring 2013 that will be filmed live in New York, I had to elaborate on witnessing what could possibly be one of the next great things that began on Youtube.

askhodgetwins Youtube:

Their charisma and humor are undeniably infectious, and if I have to call it, I believe that, if marketed right, they will become huge mainstream personalities.  Heck, in my eyes they already are. ~GD

“THE TRUTH ABOUT STARS ***** Rating of A Novel” by Blaze Reviewz

A 5 star review shouldn’t be easily awarded. It needs to be earned by meeting ALL components of a great read. A 5 star shouldn’t be based on a matter of OPINION as it should be based on a matter of FACT. 5 stars should be reserved for the ELITE. The writer that follows a guideline to greatness shouldn’t share their accolades with the average author.

The Creme De La Creme over-stands that to reach this status an element of interest must be created quickly and maintained, characters need to be developed, fictional realism (story must be believable), consistent flow, proper pace, correct grammar and punctuation, plot definition, sentence structure, emotion evoking characters and/or situations, accurate use of times, dates and places, education, and damn near flawless editing.

The Michelin star system is designed to rank food. The guide awards 1 to 3 stars to a small number of restaurants of outstanding quality.

One star indicates “Very good cuisine”

Two stars indicates “Excellent cuisine”

Three stars indicates “Exceptional cuisine” (This is rarely given)

As of late 2009, there were 26 three-star restaurants in France, and a total of 81 in the world.

The Source Magazine is one of the most popular hip hop magazines in the world.

An album that is rated at four-and-a-half or five mics is considered by The Source to be a superior hip hop album. Over the first ten years or so, the heralded five-mic rating only applied to albums that were universally lauded hip hop albums. A total of 45 albums have been awarded five mics.

Back to books and these ridiculous claims on 5 stars.

It is estimated that 200,000 new books are published each year in the U.S., and less than 1% achieve bestseller status.

But if everyone has a 5 star read then shouldn’t this percentage be higher?

Michelin reviewers will NOT hand out 3 stars.

The Source Magazine will NOT hand out 5 mics.

Blaze Reviewz will NOT hand out 5 torches.

They all MUST be earned!

The Torch Review System for Blaze Reviewz

5 Torches = On “fiyah” (Love it)

4 Torches = Flaming (Like it)

3 Torches = Sizzling (It’s OK)

2 Torches = Flickering (Don’t like it)

1 Torch = No sparks (Hate it)

Samuel D. Nichols – Literary Bio

The literary craft is more than just scribbling a few words down on paper.  It goes beyond the simplistic scope of putting words together in sentences until they are completed paragraphs, because it encompasses the elements of vulnerability, honesty, and passion.

The writer known as Samuel D. Nichols was born August 1st, 1993 in a rapidly expanding south bay city called San Jose located in Northern California.  By the time he reached the tender age of four, his family relocated to Concord,  then onto to Walnut Creek where he was raised and still currently resides.  He discovered his interest in writing by the time he reached 8th grade, and it was then that he started to explore plots and literary concepts with his mind — it would further evolve into how he saw the world from his “writers” eyes.

In these early stages of his career, Samuel was intrigued with the works of established writers such as, Edgar Allen Poe because there was this  deep connection about Poe’s work that he felt he understood. He refers to the writer, Poe, as his hero because he truly feels like he was invited into Poe’s world.

The dark themes he chose to write about during that era were at a time when life had taken a turn for the worst life was just not turning for him. It was at this time that he was also drawn to a style of Japanese comics called “Manga”, developed in the late 19th century.  He stated that “Manga” swayed his thinking about life.  He used the inspiration he obtained from them to fuse and intertwine unpredictable twists and concepts into his stories.

On a final note, he wants his readers to know that he wakes up on a quest to survive the labors of day so that he can enjoy the peaceful slumber of night.  His current contribution to the literary world is entitled, “Bloody Chest”, and soon you will be granted full access into the imaginative mind of Samuel D. Nichols, as he whisks you into this wicked game of skill and chance.

Do you have the guts to play the game?

Author G D Grace is proud to present the young writer,  Samuel D. Nichols, to his elite circle of literary friends.  My hopes is that someone will encourage him as much as I, and share with him as much as you have shared with I, about this craft and about the true meaning of encouragement.  He was a just a little tyke when I first met him, and now he has grown into an interesting literary intellect, and I’m so very proud of him.  ~GD
