It’s the day after the final battle. It’s a time of renewal and reflection. The morning sun’s warming rays caresses our faces, those of us who survived an unforgettable night of battle and bloodshed. The prior years that saw it rise into what it had become were filled with bigotry, racism, homophobia, and every other despicable act of hatred.
Senseless killings, a spike in teen suicides, and all the endless beatings, foretold the explosive event that would electrify the darkness and bring about an overdue change in the hearts and minds of humanity. The hidden became one with the shadows, too weary and afraid to reveal who they really were.
A part of me rejoices in what lies ahead, while the other part of mourns the fact that it had to come to this. Millions of lives gone just because too many couldn’t release their grip on hate.
So, are we wiser?
Have we learned to be more tolerant?
Are we prepared to rise from the ashes into a new realm of love?
Will we finally embrace peace?
Only time will tell?
